I give Elon Musk a lot of crap (and I’m sure it bothers him…that’s so Elon). Anyway, this work from Tesla on a new ventilator using their car parts is really cool. I especially liked the attention to the UI.

The final part of the equation is getting every kid to have a device. There are about 80k kids in Baltimore City. To give every kid a decent Chromebook device would require a one time spend of about $40M and then about $10M a year on technology refresh and maintenance.

The next part of the equation is internet as a utility. Baltimore could do this and there are groups trying to make it happen yet internet service providers try and fight municipal internet every step of the way.

I hope every school around the country requires their teachers to create one entirely online day per month that can be executed in the classroom as a kind of emergency drill for keeping all kids home.
This means prof dev around online tools and pedagogy.
